The Cub Scout Pack Organization and Leadership Positions
The Pack Committee
Every pack is under the supervision of a pack committee. A strong pack committee will have individual members assigned to such areas as record keeping and correspondence, finances, advancement, training, public relations, and membership and re-registration. The pack committee chair decides how the responsibilities should be divided and gives committee members assignments. Details of the various pack committee functions follow.
Pack Committee Chair (Abbreviated Responsibilities)
• Maintain a close relationship with the chartered organization and chartered organization representative.
• Supervise Pack committee operation by:
• Calling and presiding at Pack leaders' meetings
• Assigning duties to, and training, committee members
• Planning for pack charter review, membership, recruiting, and registration
• Overseeing work of treasurer, secretary, and others involved in Pack finances and recordkeeping
• Conduct the annual Pack program planning conference and Pack leaders' meetings.
• Work with Cubmaster and other leaders to develop and implement Pack program.
Chartered Organization Representative
• Represent the interests of the Chartered Organization as it pertains to Pack operations
• Work with Committee Chair and Cubmaster to ensure appropriate support from Chartered Organization
The Cubmaster
In general, the Cubmaster is the guiding hand behind the work of other Pack leaders and serves as program adviser to the pack committee--a supervisor, recruiter, a supervisor, a director, a planner, a motivator of other leaders and scouts. The responsibilities can be boiled down to the following:
• Work directly with the Committee Chair, Den Leaders, and other Pack leaders to make sure all Dens are
functioning well.
• Plan the Den and Pack programs with the help of other leaders.
• Lead the monthly Pack meeting and other Pack activities with the help of others.
• Coordinate the total Cub Scout program in the Pack.
The Assistant Cubmaster
• Assist the Cubmaster as needed. Be ready to fill in for the Cubmaster, if necessary.
• Assist in planning and leading of Pack meetings and Pack outings and activities.
• Work with the Cubmaster and pack committee on items as delegated by Cubmaster and Committee.
Pack Secretary
• Keep notes on committee meetings
• Maintain up-to-date information on membership, leadership, attendance, and advancement in Pack records
Pack Treasurer
• Help the pack committee and Cubmaster establish a sound financial program for the Pack with a budget.
• Open or maintain a bank account in the Pack's name
• Approve all budget expenditures. Check all disbursements against budget allowances, and pay bills.
• Keep up-to-date financial records. Enter all income and expenditures in the Pack financial records.
• Periodically report on the Pack's financial condition
Pack Advancement Chair
• Help plan and conduct induction and advancement recognition ceremonies
• Oversee Pack advancement records, run necessary reports, work with Council office to order and pick up awards and advancement and prepare items for distribution at Pack meetings
• Guide Den Leaders in advancement of scouts through ranks, adventures, and other awards
• Arrange for Webelos graduation ceremonies with the Cubmaster, Webelos den leader, and Scoutmaster.
Pack Outings/Activities Chair
• Help the Cubmaster and Pack Committee plan and arrange for outdoor activities, including events such as Camp Sherwin, Klondike Derby, Spring Trip, and Summer Camp
• Help inform parents about opportunities for camping and other outdoor activities.
• Assist in the promotion of camp opportunities.
Pack Race Chair
• Organize and plan annual Raingutter Regatta and Pinewood Derby.
• Recruit committee to assist in planning and running events and volunteers necessary for events.
• Work with Pack Committee to set budget, secure facilities, and other items, as needed, for these events.
Pack Fundraising Chair
• Oversee, coordinate, and promote Pack fundraising activities, including fall popcorn sale.
• Work with Cubmaster, Committee Chair, and Committee to develop additional fundraising opportunities, as needed.
Pack Communications Chair
• Update and maintain Pack website
• Prepare and send Pack communications regarding activities, updates, and other information
Den Leader (Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, and AOL)
• Plan, prepare for, and conduct Den meetings with the Assistant Den Leader and Den parents, as appropriate.
• Work directly with other den and pack leaders to ensure their den is an active and successful part of the Pack.
• Attend the Pack Leaders/Committee meetings.
• Lead the Den at the Pack meetings and other Pack activities.
Assistant Den Leader (Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, and AOL)
• Assists Den Leader with all duties
• May be called upon to serve as a parent contact or record keeper, or to handle other details of Den operation
