Pinewood Derby
INFORMATION

Please follow the official instructions in the car box and the list of rules below
Nonstandard cars will not be allowed to compete (basically, you can add "flare" to the car but you must use the official wheels, axles, etc.)
We will need a number of volunteers to assist on race day. Please contact Pack leaders to volunteer.
Please bring extra weights, tools, etc. for the pit crew if you have them.
Cars will be assigned a number that must be visible on the car.
Scouts should be in Class A uniform.
We will have den awards, overall place awards, and best in show awards.
Food, drinks, and snacks will be available.
RULES
Cars from previous years cannot be used!
Scout must do as much work on the car as possible given their ages. Only adults can operate power tools.
Once cars are checked in, they cannot be modified unless repairs are needed and the car continues to comply with all rules.
Racers must use the materials (axles, wheels and body) contained in their Pinewood Derby kit to "assemble/build" their car.
After market axles or car bodies are not allowed.
Official BSA wheels are permitted
Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces.
Width shall not exceed 2-3/4-inches.
Length shall not exceed 7-inches.
Distance between wheels shall not exceed 1-3/4-inches.
If the axle grooves are not straight, you are allowed to redress or straighten the axel grooves.
Clearance between bottom of the car and the track shall not be less than 3/8-inch.
If there is less than 3/8-inch clearance, the car will get stuck on the guide rail.
Wheel bearings, washers and bushings are prohibited.
Lubricating (wet) oil is prohibited.
Lubricating (dry) powdered graphite or silicone is allowed.
The car shall not ride on any kind of spring or suspension.
The car must be free-wheeling, starting devices are not allowed.
After market accessories and decorations are allowed as long as they do not exceed the maximum length, width or weight.
A minimum of three wheels must touch the track at all times.
The front of the car must be able to rest on the starting pin. It should not be notched and no part of the car can stick out past the starting pin.
The majority of the tips and tricks for locating the weights are permissible as long as they do not break any of the previous rules.
